Start your first conversation

Connect compatible headphones with a microphone and put them on. Choose your language and the other person’s language, allow the necessary permissions, and finish the short guide if shown. Start the conversation and hand your iPhone to the other person.

You speak and listen through your headphones. They speak into the phone and hear translations from its speaker. Translation is automatic in both directions, without a push-to-talk button. Keep an internet connection throughout the conversation.

Device and headphone requirements

HearPair for iPhone requires iOS 26.2 or later and compatible headphones with a microphone. The phone and headphones must expose separate input and output routes at the same time. A headset being connected does not by itself establish compatibility, and not every model or connection is supported.

Live translation needs a physical device. If the required routes are unavailable, the app shows a visible error rather than simulating a second microphone.

Headphones are not detected or audio cannot start

Check that the headset is connected in your phone’s system settings, has a microphone, and has the required permissions. Return to HearPair and refresh the headphone check. If more than one headset is connected, choose the one you want in the headphone screen.

Another app using audio or a temporary connection issue can interfere. Reconnect the headset and try again. If the connection is reported as unsupported, try a different microphone-equipped headset. Send us the exact error message if you need help.

The translation is quiet or plays on the wrong side

Check that the two different languages are selected correctly. Raise the phone speaker and headset volumes to a comfortable level. Keep the phone close enough for the other person to speak into it.

If sound does not follow the expected route, pause or end the conversation and check the connection before trying again. Your voice should be translated to the phone speaker; the other person’s voice should be translated to your headphones.

How the five minutes work

Each device gets a one-time total of 300 seconds of live conversation. Both directions share the allowance. One minute of conversation uses one minute in total, and silence counts while a live session is open. During pause or end, time may continue to be counted until the server confirms closure.

The allowance does not renew daily or monthly. Clearing history or a normal reinstall does not renew it. Version 1.0.0 has no option to buy more time, no subscription, and no ads. When the allowance runs out, live translation stops and saved written conversations remain available.

The allowance cannot be checked or a session is still open

Check your internet connection and try again shortly. A previous session may still be closing on the server. The server manages usage, so a connection problem does not unlock unlimited use.

If the message persists, email tech@raketalabs.com with the error and approximate time. Do not send the contents of your conversation or your device access token.

Save, share, or delete written conversations

Settings → Save conversations controls written saving for new conversations. Open a conversation in History to read or share the translated text, or delete that conversation. Settings → Clear history removes saved conversations from this device.

Turning saving off does not automatically erase old records. There is no central conversation archive from which to restore deleted local history.

Updates and maintenance messages

You can postpone an optional update. A required update means the newer version is needed to continue using the app. A maintenance notice may temporarily block use; follow the displayed message and check again later.

Use Settings → Check for updates to request the current status. The site’s contact address is available if an update or maintenance message leaves you unable to continue.

Online processing and privacy

Live speech is sent to OpenAI for translation. HearPair does not create audio recording files. Optional written history stays on your device, while pseudonymous device and session records on the server manage the allowance. Our privacy policy explains this processing and your choices.
